Untangling Our Roots: Experiences with African American Genealogy - The State Library and State Archives of North Carolina will present a Lunch and Learn panel of veteran researchers. The panelists will offer research strategies and share their own experiences untangling the intersected knots of history, memory, and surviving records, to reveal their ancestral roots. Question and answer session including staff of the SLNC and SANC to follow. Meet in Room 208 at the SLNC Governement & Heritage Library or tune in to the livestream on the State Library of North Carolina's YouTube page.

Drop in at the NC Museum of History for an afternoon of activities. Meet members of the US Colored Light Artillery Civil War reenactors as they reveal the legacy of the courageous soldiers in the struggle for freedom and citizenship during the American Civil War. Visit museum exhibits, and watch Neal Thomas make split-oak baskets, like those used by families at early Juneteenth celebrations.

Chef James Guilford, a third-generation pit BBQ cook from Princeville, NC, will start the activities for Dorothea Dix Park with a Friday Fish Fry and fire up his pit to begin cooking authentic wood-fired eastern North Carolina BBQ for Saturday afternoon.
